Paul Pogba’s second spell with Manchester United may reach its conclusion.

Jose Mourinho is notorious for falling out with his players, especially since he joined Manchester United as head coach. Paul Pogba is just one of the victims of his harsh personality, with the Portuguese boss calling him a ‘virus’ recently.

That said, this feud between manager and player could finally come to an end. However, it won’t be a sweet end for the United fans. According to The Mirror, United wish to sell Pogba in the January transfer window.

A swap deal could be on the cards

More from Manchester United

It’s not all doom and gloom for the Old Trafford faithful. Pogba is one of their best players but they could get a worthy replacement should he leave. The Mirror has also reported that United want Miralem Pjanic as part of a swap deal, should Juventus wish to step up their pursuit.

Pjanic is also up there with the best midfielders in the world so this wouldn’t be a disastrous swap. While I think Pogba is the most talented of the two, Pjanic does offer a new dynamic. Pjanic plays a lot deeper than Pogba and he likes to show off his passing ability. This would be an interesting tactical stance for Mourinho to take because although Pjanic plays deeper, he would probably add more of an attacking element to United’s play.

Pogba is an attacking midfielder, don’t get me wrong. However, when he does drive forward, not many of his teammates follow suit. Having a regista (deep-lying playmaker) who is able to dictate play from deep will give both the defenders and attackers plenty of confidence while improving the midfield spark. Overall, it’s a win-win.

It’s not going to be that easy, though

As is always the case in football, it’s not going to be easy. Reportedly, United will have an easier time trying to pursue Alex Sandro than Pjanic. Understandably so, given Juve’s efforts to find the right club for the fullback. Sandro would also help to improve United’s attacking play but I can’t help feeling like Pjanic is the best option of the two.

It will be interesting to see how this saga pans out. A move away from Old Trafford is probably the best option for Pogba right now while he’s still young. He can’t afford to stick around with Mourinho’s toxicity.
