Manchester United will clearly try to tempt Mauricio Pochettino to leave Tottenham for Old Trafford, but the Argentine gaffer will stay put.

Mauricio Pochettino began being linked with a move to Manchester United the moment news of Jose Mourinho’s dismissal became public. It’s easy to see why the higher-ups at Old Trafford would be interested in Tottenham’s boss. The question is whether or not United have what it takes to tempt Pochettino into making the move.

United has prestige on their side, but that’s not going to be enough to convince Pochettino to give up on his project in North London. It’s also very possible Ed Woodward will try to use his club’s financial power to his advantage. Then again, Pochettino isn’t someone who is purely motivated by money.

Some pundits can’t accept it, but it’s very possible Pochettino snubs United in favour of staying at Tottenham. If he does make that somewhat surprising decision, it’ll be because of these five reasons.

5. His desire to finish what he’s started

Pochettino has talked over and over again about his passion for his project at Spurs. If he were to leave after this season, he would be cutting the cord prematurely on work that’s dominated the last few years of his life.

That just doesn’t seem like a decision that’s in line with Pochettino’s character. Loyalty is more than just a buzzword for the Argentine manner. He’s agonized about every job change he’s made during his young career. Leaving Spurs early for a move to United would really tax his personal ethos.

The easier emotional choice for Pochettino will be to stay put and try to finish the project he’s started at Tottenham. Winning silverware is a must for him to feel that sense of accomplishment. Until that happens, he’s likely to stay put in North London.
