1. Sir Alex Ferguson’s shadow

The daunting shadow of Sir Alex Ferguson has crippled several managers since his retirement. It’s going to be extremely difficult for any manager to win enough matches and trophies to be considered his equal.

The list of recent managers at Tottenham doesn’t feature any men with resumes that can intimidate Pochettino in the slightest. He’s not concerned with being considered a superior manager to Harry Redknapp. Pochettino has a real chance to become the Ferguson of Tottenham if he continues on his current path.

That sort of fame isn’t Pochettino’s singular focus, but it is something he’ll consider. His healthy, but not overwhelming, ego means he’ll appreciate the chance to be a real trailblazer at Spurs. That’s just not possible given Ferguson’s legacy at United.

In the end, expect this to be Pochettino’s biggest reason for staying put at Tottenham. He wants the chance to become the best manager in a big club’s history. He’s well on his way to doing that at Spurs. He’s not afraid of Ferguson’s shadow, but he is aware of it. He’d rather bask in the sunlight at Tottenham.
