Jordi Alba will extend his association with Barcelona for good
Barcelona’s fan community will breathe a collective and profound sigh of relief after hearing news of Jordi Alba being close to a contract extension at the club.
Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba is very close to putting pen to paper on a new contract with the Spanish champions. According to Caught Offside, Alba will sign a deal that will keep him tied to the Camp Nou for four more years, meaning that his proposed agreement will run until June 30, 2023, when Alba will be 34 years old.
Since signing for the Catalonian giants back in 2012, Jordi Alba has been tremendous for them and his importance in the starting eleven has been paramount for any manager who has been on the books of the Blaugrana. Over the last six years at the club, Alba has won four La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League amongst many other prestigious accolades.

Needless to say but for sure, the 29-year-old has emerged as one of the best left back’s in the world and over the recent years, he has been second to only Marcelo of Real Madrid, also outclassing Bayern Munich’s David Alaba in the process. And hence, it is a big thing for the Catalans that they are tying him down for a longer term.
The talks between the full back’s representatives and Barcelona accelerated when Jordi Alba commented about his desire to stay at the club for longer following their win over Celta Vigo last week. It is now being reported that the Spain international will be earning a wage of an annual 9 million euros. Speaking to the press officers after Barcelona’s 2-0 win at the Camp Nou, Alba said:
"“When I signed for Barcelona, it wasn’t for money. I came here for the feeling and because it is my home. In the end, it’s not enough to say that I’m a great player, as actions also matter.”"
The contract extension is obviously good news for Jordi Alba who will get to play at one of the world’s best clubs until the dusk of his career. However, another winner out of his agreement with the Spanish superpower will be Lionel Messi. The 31-year-old has developed an amazing rapport with the full back and excels whilst playing next to him.
In spite of Alba signing a contract extension very shortly, who do you think should Barcelona sign in order to be his back-up?
