Tottenham are on the fringes of the Premier League title race heading into 2019. Here are five things Spurs must do to win silverware this year.

Questions continue to swirl around Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Tottenham, but that’s an issue for Daniel Levy and company to answer in the summer. There are more pressing issues to deal with at Spurs in the immediate future. Some clever moves in the coming months could end the club’s lengthy quest to win silverware.

That doesn’t mean Tottenham can close the gap on Liverpool to win the Premier League title, but that’s not out of the question either. The club have enough elite talent at their disposal. Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are three of the finest players in Europe. Unfortunately, not all of their teammates are up to their lofty standards.

Not everything on Tottenham’s to do list in 2019 is transfer related though. There are still some internal issues the club can solve to put the squad on better footing.

Without delay, let’s jump into the top five things that should be New Year’s resolutions for the club. We’ll start with an obvious priority heading into January.

5. Sign someone

Everyone reading this knows that Tottenham infamously chose to sit out the entire summer transfer window. That might have been good for the club’s business model, but it didn’t show a ton of ambition to anyone associated with Spurs.

Simply put, it’s vital for Tottenham to show some measure of activity in the January window. That doesn’t mean Levy has to splash out massive amounts of cash for a world-class star, but there have to be some marginal improvements to Pochettino’s squad.

It’s an absolute necessity that Spurs bring someone in during the January window. If they fail to do so they risk becoming a laughing-stock all across Europe. Tottenham cannot afford to suffer that sort of embarrassment. Levy must sign someone this month.
