Real Madrid and Chelsea exchanged players last summer and there could be similar dealings in 2019 as well, but the Whites may be at significant advantage.

Chelsea signed Christian Pulisic and announced that they had loaned him back to Borussia Dortmund until the end of this season. While several are talking about the US international being a replacement for the ageing Willian and Pedro, he might also be a player that could be Eden Hazard’s locum after the coming months.

More from Real Madrid

The Belgium international’s proposed move to Real Madrid may have increased in probability after Pulisic signed with Chelsea and it is no surprise that Hazard wants a move to Spain as well. The fact that the winger’s contract enters its final year at the end of this season will allow Los Blancos in getting him for cheap.

But with Eden Hazard coming, they might want to call Mateo Kovacic back thanks to the beautiful link up that he has established with his Chelsea teammate now. Kovacic has been deemed as a player that could succeed Luka Modric and despite possibly wanting to head to Chelsea permanently, Real Madrid will have the biggest say in his matter.

Nonetheless, Kovacic loves the club a lot and he will get the minutes he is looking for with his compatriot Modric ageing. The Croatia international’s game with Eden Hazard is just a treat to the eyes and if they both can do it at Madrid, then the team will highly benefit especially because there are players of better quality around the two as well.

The 24-year-old has assisted twice in the Premier League this season, both times to Hazard, but otherwise, his gameplay with the Belgian is superb as well. Kovacic can hold the ball well and his superb decision-making allows him to release Hazard soon. Playing right behind the left winger has seen Kovacic do well even at Croatia and Real Madrid and there’s no reason to think why he won’t repeat it at Madrid as well with Hazard.

Hazard’s transfer to the Spanish capital seems to be only a matter of time and Mateo Kovacic could come back as well as an ageing Luka Modric will need to be replaced. Real Madrid have a pretty buffed midfield at this time and Kovacic may be one greater number, but probably Federico Valverde can be sent out on loan.
