Among the several frontmen that Real Madrid have been monitoring over the last few years, Mauro Icardi stands out by a country mile.

Real Madrid’s goal scoring problems have been exposed like never before since Cristiano Ronaldo departed the club in the last summer. Karim Benzema has scored an approximate 15 goals in the campaign so far and is the top scorer for a Real Madrid sign that visibly struggles with the finishing in every match that it plays.

More from Real Madrid

Gareth Bale occasionally turns up, but his injuries and inconsistencies reveal the deadweight that he is and there has been some gossip about him probably returning to England. Creativity has not at all been the problem at Real Madrid, but chances created and possession will lead to nothing unless the ball crosses the goal’s line.

The Whites certainly have to react in the transfer market. With the 2018/19 season at its halfway point, Real Madrid’s players do not realistically stand a chance of lifting any silverware thanks to their foolishness in the summer transfer window. A striker is a must and Mauro Icardi is the epitome of their essentiality since the last couple of months.

The Argentinian striker has enjoyed blockbuster campaigns at Inter Milan in the last few years and has had many suitors that have been eyeing his signatures, among which Real Madrid are hands down the biggest and most prestigious ones. Wanda Nara has also hinted that he could be on the move in the summer and Madrid must invest in him.

The likes of Luis Suarez and Harry Kane are definitely a lot more complete players than Icardi, but to do the work that the others do, Los Merengues already have the kind and generous Karim Benzema. That said, they need somebody who is a fox in the box and the 25-year-old Icardi is just the missing piece that Real Madrid’s puzzle has had since Ronaldo.

Among a fading breed that was characterised by the likes of Raul Gonzalez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gerd Muller, Mauro Icardi is among the last pieces left and all his beaus will be at arrears should he sign for Real Madrid. What he brings to the team is absolutely unreal, and the fact that he has done it with average players at Inter makes him a much exciting prospect.

Mauro Icardi has the killer instinct inside the box which helps him swiftly bury crosses and make defenders marking him look like total duds once the ball finds the back of the net. His feinting, positioning and ability to shrug off the marker are probably bettered only by Cristiano Ronaldo right now, making him worth every penny of the potential 110 million euros Real might spend on him.

With the threat that the likes of Lucas Vazquez, Marcelo and Dani Carvajal pose from either wings, there will be no shortage of the chances created for Mauro Icardi who can bury them in even with a slight sniff of empty space around him. What’s more enticing is that he will be playing with an unselfish and overly submissive Karim Benzema in the team.

At just 25, he at least has five years left to play at top-level football and coming at Real Madrid could be a superb decision. Not only will he play at the world’s greatest club, he will also have the opportunity to silence Barcelona, who considered him to be not good enough when he was in their academy during his early years.
