Manchester United may offer Mauricio Pochettino a small fortune to move to Old Trafford this summer, but family may keep the Spurs gaffer in North London.

There’s little doubt that Manchester United are going to attempt to steal Mauricio Pochettino away from Tottenham this summer. Ole Gunner Solskjaer might be able to change that by bringing silverware to Old Trafford this season, but otherwise it’s very apparent Pochettino will be United’s top target.

Contrary to the opinion of several prominent British media outlets, it’s far from a foregone conclusion that Pochettino will make the move. The Argentine gaffer has more talent at his disposal at Spurs than he would immediately after moving to United. He also enjoys a great deal of power with Tottenham that he might not enjoy with United.

Of course, United can offer he and his staff massive wages to tempt them to make the move. The talent gap between the two clubs could also be closed with a few productive transfer windows. United have big money to spend every time the market opens.

The one department where United can’t match Spurs is the way Tottenham have embraced Pochettino’s entire family. It’s not just that club officials have gone out of their way to make the manager’s feel comfortable. That sort of hospitality is present at a lot of clubs.

The difference at Tottenham is that they go so far as to employ both of Pochettino’s sons. Maurizio is currently a member in Tottenham’s Academy. It’s unlikely he’ll ever ascend to the senior squad, but it’s undoubtedly a nice thing for the elder Pochettino to see one of his sons on the training pitch regularly.

Pochettino’s other son, Sebastiano, is employed by Tottenham as a sports scientist. It’s believed he is the youngest person to hold that post for a Premier League club. He may very well be highly qualified for the post, but it’s also possible he was able to get his foot in the door with the analytics department due to his surname.

It’s always possible United could offer his sons similar positions, but the fact that Spurs did so before they needed to says a lot about the way they value Pochettino. Don’t be surprised if family ends up being the thing that keeps Pochettino at Tottenham. Uprooting a family is always hard, but it’s even more difficult when it requires job changes from one father and two sons.
