Real Madrid’s shot stopper Kiko Casilla has become a forgotten figure since Thibaut Courtois came in and a departure seems imminent for him.

Real Madrid’s goalkeeping situation is currently haywire. Thibaut Courtois arrived from Chelsea last summer and despite not being in the best of forms, he has been made the first choice goalie in the league and Champions League. Keylor Navas has fallen to the role of a second fiddle and only guards the sticks in the Copa del Rey or when the Belgium international is absent.

More from Real Madrid

That leaves one highly respected goalkeeper in Kiko Casilla literally without any playing time and it is clear that the former Espanyol shot stopper has no clear future at the Santiago Bernabeu. As a matter of fact, Casilla is yet to play even a minute of official football this season and warming the bench week in, week out is certainly a frustrating thing to go through for any footballer.

The Spanish keeper is ready to move on and now that he is considered surplus to requirements by Santiago Solari, the club is willing to let go of him as well and there are reports that Championship outfit Leeds United led by Marcelo Bielsa in the dugout are being considered as the front-runners to sign the three-time European Cup winning goalie. That is as per MARCA, which is a trustworthy source.

Leeds United are currently on top of England’s second division league- the EFL Championship and Marcelo Bielsa thinks that bringing in Kiko Casilla would be strengthening their bid to get into the Premier League next season by having a solid second half of the remaining season. If he closes in on a transfer to the north of England, it is mostly certain that Casilla will be the first choice goalkeeper.

Kiko Casilla arrived at Real Madrid in 2015 but was mostly second to Keylor Navas and fell even below in the pecking order when Thibaut Courtois arrived. The 32-year-old has won the UEFA Champions League three times and also has a La Liga medal to boast about in addition to several other trophies. While he was not the most sought after player, his charisma will definitely be missed by the Whites.
