Barcelona stayed on top of La Liga Santander, thanks to their 3-0 win over Eibar in which Luis Suarez scored twice and Lionel Messi struck as well.

Barcelona continued their upward maintenance in La Liga Santander courtesy of a 3-0 victory over SD Eibar. At the end of 19 match weeks, Ernesto Valverde’s men remain in the hunt for a second successive La Liga title as they are already five points above second placed Atletico de Madrid and ten ahead of Sevilla and Real Madrid, who are third and fourth respectively.

The match against Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side was a cakewalk for the Blaugrana as they continue to be proud of their record of never dropping even a single point against the Basque outfit. On a night on which Lionel Messi grabbed his four hundredth league goal, Luis Suarez was the star of the show as he grabbed a brace and also assisted Lionel Messi for the big one.

Apart from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Sergi Roberto were involved in the goals too wherein they turned providers. At the back, it was a pretty silent night for the Catalans and a much-needed clean sheet for Marc Andre Ter Stegen as well. That said, let us take a look at how the Barcelona players did.

Goalkeeper- Marc Andre Ter Stegen- 7/10

Marc Andre Ter Stegen kept a clean sheet and it was Barcelona’s first of the New Year. Seeing Eibar’s record coming against the bigger sides of the league coming into the match, the Germany international would have definitely been wary of their threat but he was able to keep them out. Ter Stegen made two or three good saves on an otherwise silent night.
