GK: Wojciech Szczesny

Wojciech Szczesny was surprisingly selected over the weekend for a Coppa Italia match where his presence was unnecessary and now he’ll be called into action again for a match where he might actually matter. He didn’t face a single shot on target from Bologna on Saturday and likely could’ve been given the day off in favor of Mattia Perin. That won’t be the case against Milan as Juve will be very wary of their former striker, Gonzalo Higuain. Szczesny got the better of Higuain the last time Juve and Milan met, saving his penalty in the first half. Szczesny will hope to recreate that performance on Wednesday.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci

Just when it seemed like Juve’s defense would get back to full strength they fell victim to yet another injury. When Medhi Benatia was forced out of Juve’s starting lineup on Saturday with a prematch injury it made Juventus even thinner at center back than they already were. This will unfortunately necessitate the continued presence of Leonardo Bonucci in the Juve starting lineup. He hasn’t been particularly good at all this season and I had begun to hope that Benatia would eventually replace him as a regular starter, but Benatia suffered yet another in a long line of injuries. Now we’ll see Bonucci once again as he tries to return to even a semblance of the defender he used to be.

CB: Giorgio Chiellini

Juve’s captain was called into action at the last minute over the weekend when Medhi Benatia was injured before the match. Now Giorgio Chiellini will start once again on Wednesday and attempt to claim his 4th Supercoppa of his career. He has been as good as ever this season and has been the key to keeping Juve’s defense organized while Bonucci has struggled. Juve will need him to continue to play at this high level in the second half of the year if they hope to achieve their goals. If he plays at that level on Wednesday then Juve will lift the first of the 4 they hope to claim in 2019.
