The window so far has been an interesting one in Scotland. With some high profile names completing their transfers up North, it’s going to be an even more interesting league for Scottish football fans.

Number 5: Ryan Gauld
Sporting Lisbon -> HIBERNIAN (LOAN)

When Gauld started his career at Dundee United, he was hailed as the “Scottish Messi” and it seemed that whenever he got the ball, something amazing would happen. However, this hasn’t been the case so far for Gauld after he earned his transfer to Sporting Lisbon. He’s only managed to secure some loan transfers, Hibs included but that being said it could be a return home that can kickstart his career again. If Hibs can get out of him what Dundee United did, Hibs will be a much more devastating force to deal with on the attack.

Number 4: Steven Davis
Southampton -> RANGERS (LOAN)

Steven Davis to Rangers makes perfect sense for the Govan outfit. Gerrard has managed to acquire the services of a player who knows what it means to be a Rangers player. Davis supported the Gers as a boy, and previously help guide Rangers to a UEFA Cup Final as well as several domestic trophies. Gerrard has signed a player who will be instrumental on and off the pitch. It is rumoured that Rangers may move to buy the player in summer, although this is unconfirmed.

Number 3: Timothy Weah
Paris Saint-Germain -> CELTIC  (LOAN)

Timothy Weah is a relatively unknown player to the Scottish league, so, why has he entered into the top 5 transfers? A quick Google and YouTube shows what he can bring to Scottish football – especially if he’s anything like his father. Celtic have managed to secure a player that can bring deadly acceleration and skill which some would say they have lacked this year. By bolstering the Hoops’ attack, Brendan Rodgers can maybe start looking forward to more domestic success this year and with a bit of luck, maybe surprise European success too.

Number 2: Ross McCormack
Aston Villa -> MOTHERWELL (LOAN)

Stephen Robinson has a history of doing his due diligence when it comes to the transfer market, having successfully managing to overturn a relegation-bound side into a team that gets to two domestic finals within a season, but he’s really pulled one of out of the bag here. McCormack enjoyed a 2 year spell with the Lanarkshire outfit in 2006-2008, which saw him make 48 appearances.

Although since playing for Leeds and Fulham he’s arguably not been at his best, he has suggested that coming back to Motherwell is the move that will reignite his career again. This is no doubt one of the best transfers of the window, and the Fir Park faithful will no doubt be eager to see what he brings to the side now.

Number 1: Jermain Defoe

Southampton -> RANGERS

Last but not least, it’s Jermain Defoe, a good guy as much as a good footballer.

Defoe had a fantastic career down south, scoring 273 goals so far in 683 appearances. Critics have said that his age will be his downfall in Scotland however his performances at Bournemouth have been fairly good, managing to get himself about the defence and cause a stir up. That being said, it isn’t a guarantee that him (or anybody on this list) will come and light the league on fire. Take Joey Barton for example. Defoe has a track record of scoring goals and any defence that comes up against him will no doubt be in for a shift.

Rangers fans will be really excited about this signing and rightly so, he may just be what the Ibrox faithful need to finally get trophies back to Govan. And judging by this tweet, he definitely seems up for it.
