LB: Alex Sandro 7/10

Even in a match where Juventus dominated a lesser opponent, Alex Sandro wasn’t able to leave his mark on the match. He made 5 clearances in the match, but overall he didn’t really have much to do defensively. He also wasn’t able to really make his presence felt in the attacking half either. Sorrentino prevented him from scoring a goal that would’ve made his performance much more impressive. This match didn’t quite live up to his recent performances, but Juve also didn’t need him to be all that great on Monday.

CB: Giorgio Chiellini 7/10

This match got off to a rocky start for Giorgio Chiellini, but the Juventus captain quickly recovered from the awful pass that could’ve put Juve’s defense in danger. After that he returned to his usual dependable defensive effort. These types of matches aren’t exactly the ones that Chiellini usually shines in because the defense isn’t tested often, but he put in another solid effort. He’ll be tested more frequently next week when Juve faces Lazio, but he’ll surely be ready for more of a challenge.

CB: Daniele Rugani 8/10

Daniele Rugani didn’t have much to do defensively and probably should’ve given away a penalty in this match, but he played well outside of that moment. He found an opening in Chievo’s porous defense on a set piece ad headed home for Juve’s third goal of the match and his first of the season. It didn’t mean much for the match, but should help a player who rarely gets playing time rebuild his confidence. Also, the fact that he wasn’t responsible for a goal from the opposing team means he did better defensively than the man who usually occupies this position.

RB: Mattia De Sciglio 7/10

There were times on Monday that it was easy to forget that Mattia De Sciglio was on the field. I was actually pretty surprised when I saw his stat line of 2 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 clearances for the match. He just wasn’t all that noticeable of a presence. In a match where Juventus dominated possession it was easy to notice his lack of Joao Cancelo’s attacking ability. Still, any time you can put a backup into a match and not notice he is there it’s probably better than what most teams get out of their rotational players.
