Firing Jose Mourinho may serve Manchester United well in terms of keeping their star players.

Manchester United are going through a run of good form. They remain in their trademark sixth position, however, progress is being made undoubtedly. This is largely due to the work of their caretaker manager Ole Gunna Solskjaer, who has made tremendous progress at the club. A number of star players have benefited from his appointment, including Marcus Rashford and David de Gea.

However, perhaps the biggest player at his disposal is Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has been absolutely out of this world for United since Solskjaer took charge and he’s really showing why United paid the money for him in the first place.

More from Manchester United

With the downfall of Jose Mourinho, many fans feared that it could send Pogba on his way out. However, it would appear that the United board acted in the nick of time since he is now in contract talks with the club. This news is coming from The Sun.

This is excellent news for Manchester United, clearly. He is their best player and a contender for the best midfielder in the Premier League. That said, he is perhaps the most crucial lace which United to tie in their transition back to being a super club.

The script is set

Pogba has been with United since his academy days. He fell short of the hurdle under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, which is why he was sent to Juventus. However, a few years down the line he is back at the club he professes to love, in front of the fans that clearly love him.

He has received advice from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick during his time with United. These are all legends in their own right. If he is to be anything like them, then he needs to knuckle down which I’m sure is a real possibility now that Mourinho is gone.
