Left Back- Marcelo- 7.5/10
Marcelo did not have much defensive work to do, primarily because of Portu’s absence on the Girona flank. However, the Brazil international did attack very well and also tracked back when the hosts did not have possession. He got an assist for Sergio Ramos’ second goal to cap off a good night. He will hope to start the league clash over the weekend.
Centre Back- Sergio Ramos- 9/10
Sergio Ramos delivered a fantastic display as he led the team from the front against a purposeful Girona side, while defending as well as attacking. Real Madrid’s captain scored a brace, one of which was a trademark ‘Panenka’ penalty right down the middle, and the second- a powerful header. Aerially too, Ramos was much superior to Lozano throughout.
Centre Back- Nacho Fernandez- 7.5/10
Nacho Fernandez continued to do well in the Copa del Rey, as he made sure that Seydou Doumbia remained unnoticed throughout the match. Against the Ivory Coast international, Nacho was not physically adept, nor was his pace favouring him. However, the Spain international kept intercepting balls before they reached him and play intelligently.
Right Back- Alvaro Odriozola- 8.5/10
Alvaro Odriozola has left his mark in the Copa del Rey for Real Madrid this season, and he only extended his record of playing extremely well in the Girona match. Odriozola was at fault when Eusebio Sacristan’s side scored the first goal, but he assisted Vazquez and could have gotten an assist or two more. Odriozola now has four assists in the Copa del Rey.
