Defensive Midfielder- Casemiro- 8/10

Casemiro was once again the silent victor for Real Madrid through his exploits right in front of the defenders. The Brazil international defended superbly and kept Marc Roca at bay for the entire 90 minutes. Once Raphael Varane got his marching orders, Casemiro dropped back to playing as a central defender. His sliding tackles, passing and aerial ability were right on cue against the El Prat outfit. The 26-year-old has been having a hectic time of late, but with Llorente back, he should be rested in the Copa del Rey.

Right Midfielder- Luka Modric- 9/10

Luka Modric continued his upward surge of form with another fantastic display, this time versus Espanyol. The Croatia international went out onto the pitch looking to score for a third straight match, and did come close to finding the back of the net a handful of times in the final third. Modric was responsible for building-up Karim Benzema’s first goal and he also set up Sergio Ramos with a brilliant cross. Modric will be expected to take his form into the UEFA Champions League, and also do the same for the remainder of this season.

Left Midfielder- Toni Kroos- 9/10

Toni Kroos started for the first time since returning from injury and put in a world-class display on the left wing to show Real Madrid what exactly they missed, despite winning matches in his absence. The Germany international looked a bit faster than usual and dribbled well, though it is unlikely of him to be on the ball for long. Undoubtedly, Kroos’ passing was the standout characteristic and he finished the match with an accuracy of 97%. It was a good day at office for Kroos as he looks to continue a handsome personal season.
