Gary Cahill is only a short-term solution for Arsenal…

The transfer window is coming to a close and it’s been a very quiet one for Arsenal. In their first window under Unai Emery, they impressed. They signed five players early on in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichsteiner, Matteo Guendouzi, Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira. However, this time out, it’s been nothing short of lacklustre, signing nobody.

According to The Mirror, the Gunners could land at least one player before the season is over and that player is Gary Cahill. The Englishman is falling out of favour with Chelsea so he could be better suited to a move across London.

I mean, Arsenal do need a defender

More from Arsenal FC

Arsenal is no stranger to the odd defensive crisis. Even that is an understatement. Their defensive frailties have cost them a large amount over the last few seasons and it’s a trend that continues to this day.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Laurent Koscielny both sustained injuries when Arsenal took on Manchester United last Friday. Also, Rob Holding is rumoured to be out for some time, as is Hector Bellerin.

That said, it would make sense to sign a defender. And with Gary Cahill being available for a cheap fee, surely this would be the best option for Arsenal? Well, in short, it would. But Cahill is nowhere good enough to carry Arsenal to where they wish to be, nor will he be playing for much longer.

This shouldn’t interfere with their other targets

Arsenal is known to be linked with every name under the sun, I don’t need to tell you that. However, they do have something positive going on. They are rumoured to be interested in Barcelona‘s Denis Suarez. At the same time, they are hopeful of signing Ivan Perisic of Internazionale.

I have made my thoughts very clear about why the Gunners should be looking to sign Ivan Perisic as opposed to Denis Suarez. But one thing’s for sure, I would much rather they blow their budget on both than settle for JUST Gary Cahill.
