LB: Alex Sandro 6/10

Alex Sandro was the best of Juve’s defenders in this match, but that isn’t really saying much. As a whole the defense was awful and Sandro wasn’t able to do much to change that. He also didn’t provide much for Juve going forward. He wasn’t the biggest issue Juve had in the match, but he needs to do more for the squad in big matches like this.

CB: Giorgio Chiellini Inc.

Giorgio Chiellini wasn’t available for long enough to earn a grade, but it was abundantly clear throughout this match that Juventus is a mess without him. The rumor after the game was that his injury would only keep him out for 15 days. Hopefully that’s right because Juve needs him back against Atletico.

CB: Daniele Rugani 6/10

If this is what Juventus fans have to look forward to then we should brace ourselves for the very real possibility that Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa are going to be too much to handle for the Juventus defense next month. Juve needed Rugani to step up now that Leonardo Bonucci will be unavailable for a month (and even more with Chiellini now injured), but he did not put in a performance that would lead anybody to believe the defense is going to be okay while those two recover. Rugani was never supposed to be Juve’s top center back this year and now they’ll be scrambling to figure out how to make things work while the regular starters are unavailable. Luckily for Juve they have that 11 point lead that will give them some cushion while they fix this.

RB: Mattia De Sciglio 4/10

This was a pretty terrible day for Mattia De Sciglio. This was due in part to the fact that he was suddenly thrust into a center back role that he isn’t really suited and obviously wasn’t prepared to play when the day began. However, that still doesn’t excuse his awful back pass that allowed Duvan Zapata to score his second goal. Luckily for De Sciglio it didn’t seem quite as bad as Cancelo’s mistake that allowed a goal because De Sciglio’s error came once the match had already been decided. The match against Atalanta was awful for the entire Juventus defense and De Sciglio was no exception.
