Juventus player ratings vs Atalanta: Juve embarrassed on way out of Coppa Italia
By John Vaccaro
CM: Sami Khedira 5/10
Now we get to the worst part about this lineup. Sami Khedira shouldn’t be playing at a club at Juve’s level anymore. He has drastically declined and simply can’t hold his own against even decent competition. Every time Khedira starts for Juve I’m reminded that this team somehow thought it was a good idea to let Claudio Marchisio go for free because he wasn’t playing at a high enough level anymore, but Sami Khedira still deserved a spot on this squad. Starting him instead of Emre Can was absolutely not the answer to Juve’s midfield struggles against Lazio. I really hope I don’t have to talk about Sami Khedira anymore this season.
CM: Blaise Matuidi 6/10
It’s hard to blame Blaise Matuidi for the team’s struggles in this match. He isn’t in the lineup to be a creator and shouldn’t be expected to change that when the midfield struggles. He also can’t be held accountable for Atalanta’s scoring as he was removed from the equation on two of the goals. It’s pretty difficult for a midfielder to prevent a goal that is cause by an error from a defender. He wasn’t able to do much to help Juve in this match, but he also shouldn’t shoulder much blame for the performance.
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur 6/10
Over these last couple of matches it has become clear that Rodrigo Bentancur isn’t ready to take over as Juve’s creator in the midfield against tough competition when Miralem Pjanic is unavailable. He once again struggled to make anything positive happen for the attack in this match and should probably be given more time to develop before being given this chance again.
