CM: Miralem Pjanic 7/10

After two disappointing performances without him Juventus welcomed Miralem Pjanic back to the starting lineup against Parma. In his return he managed to return to driving the attack forward and did so with quite a bit of success, helping lead the team to a 3 goal performance. He wasn’t able to register a goal or an assist in the match, but his passing was sharp as always. He also took a pretty bad direct free kick when he was finally given free kick duties after we had suffered through poor Ronaldo free kicks all season. Ronaldo probably won’t stand for that much longer. It was a good first match back for Pjanic after missing a couple, but Juve will need him to create a bit more going forward if this is what we can expect from the defense for the next couple of weeks.

CM: Sami Khedira 7/10

Sami Khedira‘s performance was all over the place in this match. After 25 minutes I was ready to give him a poor grade and once again wonder why he was even on the field, but then he managed to get himself into some dangerous positions and nearly scored on 3 different occasions. Unfortunately, he was out of position for the first Parma goal and allowed a man to get a free run into the box for the header. Overall, I think this was about as good of a performance as we can hope to get out of Khedira at this point in his career. I just hope we don’t see him start a 3rd consecutive match next weekend.

CM: Blaise Matuidi 7/10

This was one of the rare matches where Blaise Matuidi had more of an impact on the attacking end than in the defensive end. He provided the assist on Ronaldo’s first goal of the match, but unfortunately didn’t offer much else over the course of the match. He wasn’t able to take the pressure off of the makeshift defense in the second half and wasn’t really asked to do much defensively in the first half as Juventus was in complete control of the match. He has now registered both a goal and an assist against Parma, but this was not his best match on the defensive end.
