Juventus player ratings vs Parma: Now it’s time to worry
By John Vaccaro
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo 10/10
You really couldn’t ask for more from Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday. He scored 2 goals and assisted the 3rd and most days that would be enough for Juve to not only win a match, but to coast to a win. Unfortunately, the defense was about as disastrous as many probably feared when it became clear that Caceres and Rugani would have to start as the center backs for a couple of weeks. It’s a shame that Juve ruined such a great performance from Ronaldo, but this match should help him get going again as he had struggled in the last 3 matches.
ST: Mario Mandzukic 8.5/10 (first 92), -3/10 (last 2 minutes)
I honestly didn’t know what to put for Mandzukic’s grade for this match. If the match had ended in the 92nd minute then he’d have gotten an 8.5/10 for assisting one goal and creating the opportunity for Rugani’s even though Ronaldo got the actual assist. For the last 2 minutes of the match he should get a -3/10 for making the worst play he possibly could have late in the match. When you’re stuck in the corner with the ball and trying to hold onto a lead then the last thing you should do is lob the ball up into the middle of the field. I’m pretty sure that’s the case no matter what sport you’re playing. Outside of his horrible error late in the match Mandzukic was actually great against Parma. Juve’s attack has looked better with him in the lineup all year and it showed again in his first match back from injury. He’ll bounce back from this, but he’ll have to hope those 2 points don’t end up making a difference at the end of the year.
RW: Douglas Costa 7/10
It was a short day for Douglas Costa, but he was dangerous throughout his time on the field. His pace was an issue as always for the Parma defense and his cuts inside opened up space for Juve to operate throughout the first half. He wasn’t able to contribute a goal or an assist in the match, but he was definitely a positive presence for the attack. Hopefully he’ll continue to start for Juve.
