By the looks of it, Messi and Pique are not the biggest fans of Ernesto Valverde and have already decided as to who must coach Barcelona next season.

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde’s contract at the club expires at the end of this season and there has been no concrete talk of a renewal. Josep Maria Bartomeu is optimistic about the former Athletic Bilbao manager extending his association with the Catalans, but nothing can be confirmed or said until it is official so as things stand, Barcelona will look to ponder in a new manager at the end of this season.

The pressure on the Barcelona boss is tremendous this season as the players as well as the fan community are in hunger of another treble, with the UEFA Champions League being an utter priority this time out. Ernesto Valverde is clearly not a fan favourite for some of the decisions which he makes, and that is clear by how they react on social media.

Clearly, it does not seem like Ernesto Valverde is a favourite of Leo Messi as well as Gerard Pique because two of Barcelona’s most important men have made their concerns heard to the Barcelona board. They believe that the 54-year-old has not been able to preserve the possession-based gameplay which has been long linked with Barcelona, neither are they fans of his treatment of Vidal, Semedo and Prince.

In the best interests of the club, Messi and Pique think that it is the right time to bring about a managerial change. Ernesto Valverde has done his fair bit, but it is time to bring in a coach who will help in preserving Barcelona’s DNA of playing a possession-based game. Quique Setien of Real Betis is the perfect man to do so, as per Messi and Pique.

The Real Betis manager has thrived in Seville and is potentially just 180 minutes from a Copa del Rey Final. He has pulled off some stunning results in the league, including a 4-3 win over Barcelona in the Camp Nou, and a 1-0 success against Atletico Madrid last weekend. Moreover, his beautiful playing style makes him a hot property that Bartomeu will blindly go for if Messi, as well as Pique, are happy.
