This could be quite the twist…
Chelsea is running the risk of losing Eden Hazard at the end of the season. It is thought that Real Madrid is interested in signing the Belgian. Losing your star player is never ideal, so luckily Maurizio Sarri has already located a potential replacement.
According to the Independent, Chelsea is ‘monitoring’ Philippe Coutinho of Barcelona. The attacker underwent many successful seasons in English football, becoming a real fan favourite at Liverpool.

Coutinho now plays for Barcelona but it hasn’t gone as well as he would have hoped. Don’t get me wrong, he has certainly performed on a consistent basis but not at the level he is accustomed to.
Some players are simply fit for the English game, the same can be said for any league. Coutinho may be one of those that thrive on English soil, despite his Brazilian roots. That said, it’s understandable that he may be feeling homesick.
Obviously, Liverpool wouldn’t be interested in re-signing him. In fact, they have weirdly improved since his move away last season. They currently face a top-spot battle with champions Manchester City, which goes to show the immense form they are in.
Chelsea, on the other hand, would snatch Coutinho at any given opportunity. They know just how good he is after he performed against them on a few occasions. And with Hazard leaving, I’m struggling to think of any better replacements on the market.
Coutinho is a flair-driven player who likes to contribute to attacking play. He is not a selfish player, however, when he chooses to be, he prevails more often than not. Sounds familiar doesn’t it, Chelsea fans?
It would take some convincing to persuade Barcelona to sell. They have no reason to sell him, given his contract situation. However, Chelsea could receive a large wad of cash if they sell Hazard to Real Madrid, so it could be a no-brainer for both parties.
Do you think Chelsea should sign Philippe Coutinho?
