CBs: Martin Caceres and Daniele Rugani

Well that was rough. I know the expectations weren’t high for the center back pairing of Daniele Rugani and Martin Caceres heading into the match against Parma, but to become only the second team to allow Parma to score 3 goals in a match and to do it at home is a disappointment even with the bar set so low. Caceres looked lost against Parma. He was out of position for one of Parma’s goals and did an awful job of preventing a cross on another. The match about as badly as a player’s return to his former club could. Rugani actually had some bright moments as he played well for most of the match and even scored a goal, but he lost Gervinho on his first goal and his attempt to recover didn’t make things any better. Caceres  can somewhat be excused because he is still getting used to a new team and hadn’t really played much at all before his return to Juve. However, Rugani doesn’t really have an excuse as he had seen his workload increase over the last month. Juventus got good news when they found out that Andrea Barzagli would be available from the bench against Sassuolo and Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci would be returning to training during this coming week, but these two starting another match for Juventus is going to be tough. Hopefully they can improve in their second outing, but if we get a repeat of the Parma match then Juve will likely drop points once again on Sunday.
