Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey took to social media to announce his pre-contract agreement with Juventus.

Arsenal hasn’t had the best of luck in recent years when it comes to midfielders, however, it’s not indicative of their history. They have housed many great midfielders over the years, including the likes of Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit.

Aaron Ramsey is the latest in this catalogue of stars. While it’s been hard to notice throughout his career with the Gunners, he has been something else. Ramsey took to Twitter earlier this evening to address his situation and inform the Arsenal fans that he will be leaving come the end of the season…

Because one FA Cup-winning goal wasn’t enough

More from Arsenal FC

What stands out to me the most about Ramsey’s career are his two FA Cup-winning goals. When Arsenal needed him most, he was often on call to come up with the goods.

The first came against Hull and it couldn’t have been scored by a more fitting player. In perhaps the best season of his career, he stepped up in extra time to poke home the winning goal. This ended Arsenal’s trophy drought (finally) and capped off what was a terrific season for the Welshman.

Then a few years later, Arsenal was playing against the Premier League champions at the time, Chelsea, in the decider. Just as Chelsea pulled back late on, Aaron Ramsey nodded home on the other side of the pitch just a few moments later. It was as if it was nothing, but scoring in an FA Cup final against your arch rivals takes some doing. For that alone, Ramsey will always be remembered.

Ramsey filled an important void at Arsenal

Arsenal’s problems have been defensive in recent seasons. They have lacked any real backbone and it all stems from the midfield. Since Gilberto Silva left the club, they have failed to replace him. Although, that said many believe Lucas Torreira is the man to do just that.

Anyway, what I’m saying is that Arsenal has never had a problem going forward from midfield. And why is that? Well, it’s because of Aaron Ramsey. He is one of the best in the world at breaking forward and finding space, often being able to exploit it with probing runs.

Arsenal will have a hard time trying to replace this since not many can do it like Ramsey. Who knows? Perhaps Denis Suarez is the best option for the Gunners, only time will tell.

dark. Next. Denis Suarez will give Mesut Ozil a boost

How do you think Ramsey will get on at his new club Juventus?
