When Maurizio Sarri joined Chelsea, nobody expected him to set the world alight within his first season. However, he did impress the fans early on. He made use of the players around him, while greatly improving others. For example, Eden Hazard, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger all benefited from his appointment in the early stages.
However, things soon took a turn. And according to The Mirror, he has just one game to prove himself and that is against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. That’s quite an ask considering City are the defending champions and they’re in stellar form this season,

In case you didn’t know, Chelsea has bid farewell to a few competitions this season. Their chances of winning the Premier League are very, very thin. In fact, it would take a miracle for them to top the charts come to the end of the season. Also, as mentioned, they no longer stand a chance in the FA Cup.
Perhaps it’s because Chelsea players don’t react well to stern management. I mean, this case has been seen with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in the past. If this is the case, then the Chelsea board need to seriously rethink their appointment strategy.
Can it really be said that Sarri is entirely to blame? No, of course not. The players need to take some responsibility for their actions. After all, they are supposed to be experienced professionals.
Does Chelsea stand any chance?
In short, absolutely. Manchester City has shown many signs of vulnerability this season, particularly against Newcastle. Perhaps it was just a bad day at the office, but Maurizio Sarri will need to adapt his gameplan in order to tailor this matchup.
Sarri isn’t the type to go against what he knows. But if he is really serious about managing long-term in London, then he will need to swallow his pride. The Chelsea fans are counting on him.
