Buying Che Adams isn’t going to thrill Tottenham fans around the globe, but it would be a really smart summer purchase for Spurs.

Finding a talented striker to serve as Harry Kane’s backup has been quite a challenge for Tottenham during the past several years. If Spurs can pry Che Adams away from Birmingham this summer those concerns could become a thing of the past.

Reports from England claim that Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs interested in the Championship striker. Predictably, the higher-ups at Birmingham are keen to capitalize on that interest. They want to receive a transfer fee of at least £20 million for the 22-year-old centre forward. That would represent a nice cash infusion for Birmingham, but it’s not the sort of transfer fee that’s going to give Tottenham a second thought.

Adams represents the right combination of potential and accomplishment for Mauricio Pochettino and company. The reality is that Spurs will always struggle to attract an established, veteran striker to come and sit on the bench behind Kane. Fernando Llorente’s struggles in that role will only serve to give other forwards second thoughts about taking on that role.

Spurs also can’t afford to simply throw an untested Academy player onto the pitch and hope for the best. Troy Parrott may be ready to fill the position eventually, but he’s at least one season away from being mentally and physically prepared to take on quality Premier League defenders.

The fact that Adams has already shown the ability to score prolifically in the Championship makes him an ideal candidate for Daniel Levy and the higher-ups at Tottenham. Scoring 19 goals in 32 appearances on the season for Birmingham is an impressive accomplishment.  Spurs need any striker they acquire to cover for Kane to be able to score when called upon.

His age also means he’s still the sort of player Pochettino can guide and mold into his ideal striker. Work rate isn’t a massive strength for Adams at the moment, but that’s absolutely something that can improve over time.

Next. Spurs may need to choose between Eriksen and Alderweireld. dark

Expect Tottenham to be linked with a litany of strikers this summer, but Adams is certainly a player that Spurs should chase with real vigor. He’s the perfect balance of youth and experience to fit into Pochettino’s project in North London.
