Marcelo has fallen out of favour under Santiago Solari at Real Madrid. A departure for the Brazilian beckons unless things change soon.

Santiago Solari’s time at the Real Madrid helm has been decent and certainly better than that of Julen Lopetegui. The reason for that is mainly because the Argentine manager is picking players based on their form and not just based on their big name and achievements- the reference being directed towards Marcelo, Isco and Gareth Bale.

More from Real Madrid

Under the 42-year-old, Sergio Reguilon has helped himself to becoming a first-choice left back, ahead of Marcelo who has arguably been the best in that role over the last decade. Sitting on the bench is something which certainly does not impress Marcelo despite the cute smile which he always has on his ways and from hereon, it looks like only the Brazilian or the coach will stay next season.

Marcelo has been tipped to exit Real Madrid ever since his best mate Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus. While the Brazil international has insisted that he is committed to Real Madrid, there could be different repercussions if his treatment continues in the same vein. That said, Juventus are expected to bid for him in the summer and link him up with Ronaldo and potentially even Zidane in Turin.

Should the 30-year-old depart Spain’s capital to chase newer pastures in the summer, Real Madrid will only be left with Sergio Reguilon as a left back. Theo Hernandez and Achraf Hakimi, currently on loan at Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund respectively are options, but they clearly lack the experience and leadership with Marcelo possesses.

The likes of David Alaba, Marcos Alonso and Junior Firpo have already been linked with a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium of late, but reports claim that Florentino Perez has shortlisted another name to his list of left backs, the signing of which will be a must in case of Marcelo’s departure.

The player shortlisted by Perez is Porto’s Alex Telles. The 26-year-old will be considering offers to leave Porto and Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are already monitoring him. At 26, he has experience in Europe having earlier played for Galatasaray and Inter Milan. His attacking is top-notch and he does not let down at the back, thereby making him a superb buy at just 30 million euros.

Do you think Alex Telles is the correct replacement for Marcelo at the White House?
