Manchester City is monitoring 21-year old Serbian International Luka Jovic, who currently leads the Bundesliga in goals this term with Frankfurt.

Despite having world-class options up front in Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, Pep Guardiola is looking to add to Manchester City’s attacking options this summer.

Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic has taken Europe by storm this season, making a name for himself quite rapidly with 21 goals in just 31 appearances for German side Frankfurt. He was sent on a two-year loan from Benfica in 2017, but it wasn’t until this year he got regular playing time. Jovic became the youngest player ever to score five goals in one game when he did so in October in a 7-1 thrashing of Fortuna Dusseldorf. He was just 20-years old at the time.

More from Manchester City

Along with Manchester City showing interest, some of Europe’s biggest clubs have taken note of the marksman’s top form this year. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are all keen on the Serb.

Jovic has the ability to play all over the front but is most comfortable primarily as a number nine. His quick rise to prominence this season has been extremely impressive.

It’s likely they will sell him at the end of the season, as they look to trigger a six million euros clause in his contract.

Breakout season for the Serb

Jovic has formed a fantastic partnership with Ante Rebic and Sebastian Heller on the attack this year, with the three combining for 34 of Frankfurt’s 44 goals in league play. He’s had amazing service from both Rebic and Heller all year long. Jovic has been absolutely lethal in the box, rarely missing opportunities to put one away.

If he went to a team like Man City, he would be receiving even better service with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in their midfield. Even though they have Aguero and Jesus already, they have dealt with a lot of injuries this year and it would be beneficial to have another deadly striker at their fingertips.

If Jovic did go to Man City, I do believe he’d earn a starting spot. However, he could be more worthy to a club that lacks serious attacking options right now. Bayern Munich is the first club that comes to mind, considering Robert Lewandowski is getting older and his form is slowly declining. Barcelona is another possibility, with Luis Suarez falling out of form this year.

But we know how good Pep Guardiola is at bringing big names to the Etihad, so anything is possible.

Either way, Luka Jovic will definitely be snatched up by a top club in the summer transfer window. His combination of skill, speed, presence, and the ability to finish ruthlessly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 21-year old can absolutely be one of the best strikers in the world in the coming years.
