Finally, it’s the news every Manchester United fan has been waiting for…

Manchester United fans have suffered their fair share of frustration this season. However, things soon changed when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stepped in as interim boss to replace the departing Jose Mourinho. Since his arrival, he shocked the world by managing to tie Anthony Martial down to a new contract, when the Frenchman’s career looked dead and buried under Mourinho.

According to the Daily Mail, David de Gea could be the next to follow suit. It’s thought that the Spanish goalkeeper could earn around £375,000 per week if he does put pen to paper. These are obviously ridiculous wages but they’re definitely worth it.

David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world

£375,000 per week is a lot. That goes without saying. However, when you consider the fact that he is a goalkeeper, it becomes even more surprising.

That said, de Gea is one of, if not THE best in the business. He is consistently coming up with the goods for United between the sticks, saving them many points in the progress. While his form hasn’t been up to his usual standard this season, he is a truly valuable player to the Red Devils.

If he does sign a new contract then it will only inspire his teammates to do the same. United needs security more than ever in their quest to return to superclub status so contract renewals are important here.

Was it worth ruining the wage policy for Alexis Sanchez?

I’m not sure what kind of wage policy was in place at Manchester United. However, I can be sure of one thing, it was broken when Alexis Sanchez signed from Arsenal. According to Eurosport, the Chilean earns £391,000 per week with a £75,000 for every appearance he makes. You don’t need to be good at maths to know that’s stupid money!

The thing is, though, he’s not even been worth the money. I mean, he has improved slightly under Solskjaer but nowhere enough to be the top earner. To put a long story short, I feel like United paid over the odds to get the better of both Arsenal and Manchester City, but it was the latter two that got the last laugh.

Now, whenever United enter contract negotiations with new or existing players, they will expect an extortionate amount. While United have the funds to provide such figures, no club wants to be paying that much.
