It did feel like a long time coming but it’s thought that Gareth Bale will leave Real Madrid this summer…

Gareth Bale has struggled at Real Madrid for some time now. There have been several chances for him to make a name himself, most notoriously after his impressive appearance from the bench against Liverpool in the Champions League final, in which he scored two goals. It was also thought that he would become a star after Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure but he hasn’t lived up to either expectation.

According to AS, Los Blancos could finally look to sell Bale this summer. Whether they’ve given into Bale’s requests or simply had enough of him remains to be seen but one thing’s for sure, they will be looking for a generous sum of cash from whichever club decides to take him on.

Is the Premier League best?

More from Real Madrid

A return to the Premier League would make the most sense for all parties. Bale is familiar with the English top flight since he shone there with Southampton and, of course, Tottenham Hotspur. Also, the Premier League is where all the money is, so Real Madrid will receive the most from selling him to an English club.

Manchester United has shown a keen interest in Bale in the past, while Tottenham will never really lose interest since they adore him so much. A return to Tottenham could be risky given their current resurgence but I’m sure the Welshman will only bring good things to his former club should he return.

It’s not worked out for Bale this season

Bale hasn’t been a bad player, I want to make that clear. He’s never been bad and he probably never will. However, given what Real Madrid fans think and expect of him, he could easily be doing much better.

It’s a weird one, certainly. Bale has the ability to flourish but looks like he lacks drive. One can only assume that Santiago Solari hasn’t been giving him enough trust and motivation in training but perhaps there’s an internal error with Bale’s mentality.
