Barcelona stars want former captain to return as coach
In spite of claiming pleasant successes under Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona’s players feel the need for a change of managers, with a club legend being tipped.
Barcelona have been utterly dominant on the domestic front during the last two years. The Catalans are more than perfectly on track to win their second successive domestic double whereas a treble is also well within sights, thanks to Leo Messi’s form in the UEFA Champions League. As a matter of fact, the European trophy is Barcelona’s main aim, especially after being embarrassingly knocked out of the competition last season.

Several Barcelona players are hungry for continental success, but they feel like there needs to be a change in dynamics if that is to come- and all signs point to a change of guard at the helm. The likes of Leo Messi, Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets are clearly not too happy with what Ernesto Valverde is doing at the club. They are not fans of his man management skills, but above all, it is his style of play which lets them down.
Pique, Messi and Busquets who have been definitive during Barcelona’s glorious decade have been used to playing under the passing and smooth systems employed by Pep Guardiola or even Luis Enrique for that matter. As a result, they believe that somebody who is of Barcelona background and knows what it is like to be at the Camp Nou must take charge of the team- Xavi being the suggested name.
The former Barcelona captain is currently enjoying his final footballing years in the books of Qatari giants Al Sadd. Xavi is now 39 years old and he has indicated on numerous occasions that he is open to coaching, so there could be no better place than Barcelona to get a new career underway, especially when he has a chance to work with the players who he won a treble with in his last season at the Camp Nou.
Do you think Xavi will be able to meet with Barcelona’s expectations on his first coaching job?
