Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done splendidly since he took over at Manchester United…

Manchester United has suffered some scrutiny this season, and rightly so. Under Jose Mourinho, they looked down and out. However, since the Portuguese boss departed the club, fans have endured some more positive emotions. This is down to one man and one man only, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are able to sign Solskjaer on a permanent basis for just half of the salary that Jose Mourinho was on during his time at Old Trafford. This is tremendous news for more than one reason.

Solskjaer’s got United playing the way that United should

More from Manchester United

Mourinho wasn’t the most attack-driven manager of all time, I think that’s clear to see. In fact, when he managed at United it was like watching a game of keep-ball in their own half at times.

Solskjaer, perhaps unsurprisingly, brought an attacking approach to his former club. Being the prolific talisman he was back in the day, he knew all the tools needed to unlock the promising United attack.

With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba all wanting to attack more, it wasn’t rocket science. Solskjaer simply implemented a style which the fans had been demanding for some time.

Manchester United should listen to the Greeks

Alright, I’m not going to bore you with ancient Greek philosophy. I promise.

However, it’s a known fact that there are usually two extremes. In the case for United’s season, there was defensive and attacking football. While attacking football always seems great to begin with, it can often be exploited.

Aristotle (bear with me) posed the idea of a ‘golden mean’ which is essentially a midpoint between two vices. In this case, the two vices are being too courageous (which Solskjaer is risking) and not courageous enough (duh, Jose Mourinho’s boring football).

Should Manchester United outperforming their xG turn out bad in the long run, then Solskjaer needs to be careful not to be too stubborn. Manchester United needs something more than ever right now; balance.
