Five top performers from Liverpool vs Bayern Munich

#4 – Joel Matip
Own goal aside, which was very unlucky by the way, Joel Matip played a dominant game in the middle of the defense. Defending Robert Lewandowski is no easy task, and the Cameroon international handled it very well.
It is hard watching from the television, because VAR now suggests linesman to keep their flags down when they are in doubt of a call. It seemed as though Lewandowski was sneaking behind Matip at times, but really he was holding a high line and pulling him offsides. That is credit to the 27 year-old’s organization and his teamwork with partner Virgil van Dijk.
Matip has been able to slide into Klopp’s starting eleven after injuries to self proclaimed best defender in the world, Dejan Lovren and young superstar Joe Gomez. Since then, he has been able to build a strong bond with van Dijk in the middle and the two of them look as sound as Hyypia and Carragher at the moment.
The former Schalke defender’s strength was on display too winning several tackles, and making the proper fouls when he needed to settle things down. It has been a run of solid performances for him, and you can add this one to the list.
