Tottenham fans who are concerning themselves about Harry Kane‘s future with the club can breathe a sigh of relief about their striker.

As the current season winds down it’s natural for Tottenham supporters to start wondering about the futures of their favourite players. Fortunately, Harry Kane isn’t a flight risk for Spurs. He’s very clear about what the club need to do if he’s going to stay put for the foreseeable future.

Quite simply, Kane wants to see continued ambition from Daniel Levy and company. He acknowledges the impact of Tottenham’s sparkling new stadium on the club’s reputation in England and abroad, but that’s not quite enough.

Kane is very concerned with the notion that while his Tottenham teams might remembered fondly, their reputations will be forever marred if they can’t win silverware. He wants to achieve concrete success during his tenure with Spurs. That’s an ambition that’s shared by manager Mauricio Pochettino and millions of Tottenham fans all over the globe.

The real question is what Kane will classify as ambition over the next season or two. He’s keenly aware that it might be difficult for Spurs to spend big money in the short-term due to the cost of the club’s new ground. That doesn’t mean Tottenham can afford to bypass any future transfer windows. Look for Spurs to be careful about who they buy in the next 12-18 months, but the club will break their transfer drought this summer.

The club can also show ambition by retaining some of Kane’s teammates. Toby Alderweireld is a serious flight risk this summer. He’ll have a £25 million release clause activated in his contract if he doesn’t get a new deal before the end of the season. At that price, the classy defender will draw interest from numerous European powers.

Christian Eriksen is another player who’s been linked with a summer exit. Various reports have claimed he’s a top target for Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid. Selling him might be the right business decision for Tottenham, but they’ll need to immediately reinvest that money into the squad to placate Kane.

The good news here for Tottenham fans is that Levy and the higher-ups at the club know that retaining Kane is vital to their growth plans on and off the pitch. The threat of his departure may be the best way to spur the club into action in the transfer market. Kane isn’t making demands yet, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if he did.
