Barcelona have been interested in signing Antoine Griezmann, but the board of directors is confused and at odds regarding whether he should be signed.

Barcelona have made two memorable big money signings over the last few years in Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. However, neither of the two players have failed to live up to expectations and the board of directors fears that keeping the duo is going to be a fatal step as both the wingers seem to be incompetent and would definitely not replace Luis Suarez or Lionel Messi.

While Coutinho has struggled to adapt to life in Catalonia even fifteen months after signing from Liverpool, Ousmane Dembele has had either injury issues or disciplinary debacles which have made him an unprofessional character in the face of the media. That said, the board wants to close in on somebody who can guarantee the team goals for a few years after Messi and Suarez.

Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is one such option which has caught the eye of Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors. The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Barcelona for a very long time now. As a matter of fact, it did look like Griezmann would be making the transition at the end of the 2018 World Cup, but ended up committing his future with the Rojiblancos.

However, Griezmann is fed up of not winning trophies with Atletico Madrid and losing out on individual awards nearly every year, and therefore, he will be ready to consider offers to leave during the summer from Barcelona and several other European outlets, including crosstown rivals Real Madrid. As per claims, Barcelona’s board is at odds regarding whether Griezmann should be signed or not.

The former Real Sociedad forward’s release clause is apparently 120 million euros and with the way the last two 100 million plus signings have turned out for Barcelona, the board is wary with its spending. Moreover, the way in which Antoine Griezmann created a dramatic scene and rejected Barcelona publicly last summer did not go down well amongst the board members and was seen as an insult to the club.
