Barcelona are looking to replace the 32-year-old Luis Suarez. The Uruguay international is still very much among the goals but even he has accepted that Barcelona need to shortlist a replacement for him and get him into the roster. Luka Jovic fits that requirement and has attracted interest after a great season in Germany.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are looking to bring in somebody who can score goals consistently. Karim Benzema has stepped onto the scene, but he needs support and definitely cannot do all the work by himself. As a result, Jovic joins Real Madrid’s list alongside forwards such as Mauro Icardi, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.
Luka Jovic is keen on moving to Real Madrid over Barcelona, simply because Lionel Messi’s coterie at Barcelona could restrict his playing time. The Serbian does not want to spend too much time on the bench, but that is very likely to happen because Barcelona’s captain prefers playing along with Luis Suarez in every game.
Not just that, Eintracht Frankfurt are being offered a 65 million euros’ transfer fee by Los Merengues, 5 million more than what Barcelona are paying. Moreover, Luka Jovic will also earn 8 million euros playing for Madrid in contrast to the 6.5 million per year which he would earn whilst on the books of Barcelona.
While the La Liga teams are being considered as the front runners to sign the striker, other European giants such as Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also monitoring his progress. So far in the season, Jovic has scored 23 goals and set up seven across 37 games in all competitions.
Do you think Real Madrid should pay 65 million euros for Luka Jovic during the summer?
