Barcelona have managed to keep Lionel Messi happy after informing him of their latest transfer dealing which could be completed shortly.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have gone head-to-head for signings of late. Two of Europe’s biggest teams are once again in the hunt for a defender that is Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax Amsterdam. The 19-year-old is a hot property in the transfer market and the Catalans are looking to sign him up after closing in on Frenkie de Jong’s signatures.

More from FC Barcelona

Real Madrid are expecting the departure of Raphael Varane during the summer as the France international seeks a new challenge, possibly in the Premier League. Sergio Ramos will need a partner in the centre of defence and despite Eder Militao’s arrival, Madrid want a better player as well as a marketable name added to the setup.

Barcelona are fed up of the injury issues which have mounted over Samuel Umtiti and are considering his sale during the summer. As a result, Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet will be the only two centre backs in the team and hence, de Ligt is being targeted by the reigning champions of Spain.

That said, Barcelona have already tabled a bid worth 70 million euros for the Netherlands international and are hoping that Ajax Amsterdam will take a cut from their demand of 80 million euros for the player. This comes as good news for the Catalans as they could be soon cleared into selling Umtiti who may garner them about 50 million euros.

This comes as great news for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique who were standing hot on Barcelona’s heels and insisting upon them to sign de Ligt as soon as possible. The last few days were of more persistence for the trio as Real Madrid had eclipsed Barcelona’s bid, but it looks like the Catalans have once again gotten an edge over the Whites.

Nothing remains concrete as of now because the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus remain interested in de Ligt despite the player preferring a move to Barcelona of all other teams. While the bids of his other suitors are unknown just yet, Barcelona are on top at 70 million euros.
