Liverpool fans might be excited to hear that Nabil Fekir will be free to leave Olympique Lyonnais in the summertime transfer window.
It was reported by French newspaper L’Equipe that Nabil Fekir will be able to leave Lyon after last summer’s Liverpool transfer fell through. Fekir’s transfer broke down after he was already in Liverpool and had filmed a welcoming video with LFC TV, which made fans go crazy.
Nobody officially knows, but rumors are that the deal broke down because of the medical and Fekir’s knees. However, the French midfielder has sustained his health on the field this season, tallying twelve goals and seven assists for his club. He could definitely add some creativity into the Liverpool midfield, which struggles at times on the offensive end.
Even though Liverpool’s midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Gini Wijnaldum wins some very big games for Jurgen Klopp, they are not perfect. Fans saw it on Sunday evening when Jordan Henderson had a lackluster game at best, and Fabinho came on and made an immediate impact in the game, and fans were raving on Twitter about how he needs to start every match.
The same could be said with a player like James Milner, who will turn 34 years old in the next campaign if Liverpool gives him a new contract. Do not get this wrong, Milner is great and is easily having a career year, but would a player like Fekir help the front three of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino really kick on like they did last season?
I think so. The creativity he could bring in the middle would be unmatched in the team sheet, and he also brings some set piece ability, which Liverpool have been missing since Phil Coutinho left last winter. Imagine a midfield of Wijanldum, Fabinho and Fekir, or Fabinho, Fekir, and Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The options and combinations are endless for Jurgen Klopp and adding this player could really enhance the team’s depth and quality. Will it actually happen? Probably not, just because of last summer and whatever is actually wrong with Fekir’s health. However, if Liverpool have a slow summer and are looking to add numbers, do not be surprised to see them go back in on Fekir.
