Real Madrid are desperate to hold onto Raphael Varane during the summer and are willing to give it one last go by talking to him and his reps.

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is seriously considering the prospect of moving to greener pastures during the summer, but the Whites are reluctant in letting that happen. Raphael Varane is one of the best defenders in the world without a doubt and so, it is quite normal that he is seen as a successor to Sergio Ramos shortly.

More from Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane does not want the France international to depart the club with so much football still left within him. As a matter of fact, it was a phone call from the now Real Madrid coach which convinced Raphael Varane to join the White House back in 2011, and from thereon he has definitely not looked back.

Los Blancos are now plotting a masterstroke to increase the probabilities of the former Lens central defender, which is simply by giving him a pay rise by a whopping 50% of his current earnings. Right now, Raphael Varane earns 6 million euros and Real Madrid are willing to take that figure to 9 million per annum.

That being said, the extension was planned for 2020 given that Varane had signed on new terms back in 2017 with a release clause of 500 million euros. However, Florentino Perez believes that pulling the extension closer would be a better step in Real Madrid’s best bids to keep hold of the centre back.

Raphael Varane has an offer from Paris Saint-Germain who consider him a priority as well as a successor to Thiago Silva. Some other top European giants such Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on the France international’s situation at Real Madrid. Meanwhile, the Whites have shortlisted some replacements.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is on their radar as if Ajax Amsterdam talent Matthijs de Ligt. Florentino Perez has also gotten attracted to Atletico Madrid’s centre back Jose Maria Gimenez who could cost the club roughly 105 million euros. Another player who has been monitored by Real Madrid is PSG’s Marquinhos.

What is the maximum salary Real Madrid should be paying Raphael Varane to keep his hold?
