Sergio Ramos has threatened to leave Real Madrid during the summer if one of Zinedine Zidane’s top target is signed by the club in the transfer window.

Real Madrid in recent weeks have started making a shortlist of players that they want to purchase in the summer. In spite of Eder Militao’s arrival in the centre of defence which will be effective from the 2019/20 campaign, Zinedine Zidane wants another central defender in his squad given that Raphael Varane is getting increasingly closer to possibly leaving the club.

More from Real Madrid

The prospect of signing Barcelona stalwart Samuel Umtiti has been thought of lately and his name has reverberated in the Real Madrid offices. The France international is mostly going to be sold by Barcelona during the summer after constant injuries which may be coupled with the highly possible arrival of Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs de Ligt.

While Samuel Umtiti does not want to leave Barcelona and neither does Lionel Messi wants the Frenchman to go, Barcelona may be looking to balance their books before moving for de Ligt. Umtiti was the holder of the defence beside Gerard Pique since the start of the season, but Clement Lenglet has gathered pace since the ex-Lyon defender’s injury some months ago.

Samuel Umtiti was thought to be a replacement for Carles Puyol as Barcelona’s defensive line finally established solidity for the first time since the Spaniard’s retirement at the end of 2013/14. However, injuries in the last two years have caused Samuel Umtiti to stare at the same fate as the former Barcelona captain- of having his career hampered through fitness.

In the midst of all this news, Sergio Ramos has threatened to leave Real Madrid if Samuel Umtiti is signed. The Real Madrid captain believes that signing a Barcelona player especially after contrasting seasons between the rivals will only result in feuds inside the dressing room and keeping peace will be another headache for him as well as Zidane.

Is Real Madrid bound to sign numerous French players following Zinedine Zidane’s arrival?
