Arsenal isn’t known to be the most convincing at the back…

Arsenal is undergoing a good season, however, there has been obvious flaws to their game. They sit fifth in the Premier League currently, however, could move up to fourth or even third should they win their match against Watford on Monday. Unai Emery has not got them challenging for the title yet but improvements have certainly been made.

One position they have yet to improve is the defensive zone. Bernd Leno is still being called upon to salvage the points for Arsenal. The main area of concern is in the fullback positions since the Gunners lack depth in these roles.

According to The Mirror, Nicolas Tagliafico believes this summer may be his ‘natural time’ for a move to the Premier League. In case you didn’t know, the Gunners were linked with a move for Tagliafico in the summer and they are known to still have an interest in him.

The 26-year-old has been in solid form for Ajax this season. The Eredivisie toppers have been known for their immense attacking work, however, this would be redundant if it wasn’t for their defenders putting in some graft.

Besides, Tagliafico is excellent at going forward, so Ajax has reaped the rewards from him also. In many ways, he is similar to Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac given his ability to cross the ball and willingness to beat his opposing man. However, they also share many differences (Kolasinac’s brute strength being one) so it would make for the interesting contrast.

Arsenal may be doing well in the league currently, however, they mustn’t become complacent. They need to strengthen in the summer or they will find themselves falling further and further behind their rivals.

It also doesn’t help that Nacho Monreal isn’t getting any younger. In fact, I believe that this season is the last at the top of the Spaniard’s game. It just gives Arsenal another reason to consider this Tagliafico statement.
