Klopp to raid Bundesliga in search of major summer signing
By Callum Room
It has been reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, will turn his attention to the German Bundesliga in the summer transfer window in an attempt to bolster his attacking options.
Timo Werner
There have been widespread reports linking German international Timo Werner with a move to Anfield this summer. Liverpool have been put on high alert after hearing that Werner has told Leipzig that he does not want to sign a new contract with them.
Leipzig’s chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff told Sky Sports,
"‘It’s well known that we want to extend with him, but he’s signalled to us that he does not want to sign a new contract,’We need to see what’s right for us and for Timo.’More from Liverpool FCLiverpool’s roller coaster of a season continuesHas the bubble finally burst at Liverpool? How Liverpool can regain their lost gloryThree factors which might determine the fate of the Reds this season3 Liverpool players who can benefit the most from Darwin Nunez’s signing"
With Werner out of contract in 2020, it may lead to Leipzig looking to cash in on him this coming summer. With reports of Daniel Sturridge leaving the Reds, Klopp will be needing to add another striker into his attacking outfit, with Werner seeming to fit the bill given his age and ability.
Werner, who would be available for around £50 million has scored 60 goals in 108 appearances for Leipzig.
Julian Brandt
Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt has also recently been linked with a move to Anfield. According to German media outlet BILD, Liverpool are locked in a three-way battle with Real Madrid and Juventus to land the German international.
Klopp has been a long-term admirer of Brandt, and originally made a move for him in 2017 before changing his mind and opting to sign Mo Salah. Brandt has a release clause of just £21.4 million, making him an absolute steal given the current prices in this market.
With recent speculation suggesting that Klopp has fallen out with Shaqiri, it could be that this interest from the Reds is off the back of that. Brandt would make an ideal replacement for the winger and has proved this season that he is more than capable of contributing to the team, scoring seven goals and grabbing 14 assists already.
Both Werner and Brandt would make excellent signings for Liverpool this summer and I am sure Liverpool’s outgoings will have a big impact on who Klopp decides is his man.
Who do you think would be a better signing for Liverpool?
