Manchester United is being taken advantage of…

Manchester United isn’t in the best of positions right now. Exiting the Champions League, they are uncertain whether or not they will qualify for next season. They sit in sixth place in the Premier League and have a few contract situations which need sorting out. Combine these two things and it’s a recipe for mayhem from a United supporter’s viewpoint.

According to The Times, both Paul Pogba and David de Gea are requesting significant pay rises. Their reasoning is that they uncertain whether they will play in the Champions League next season.

More from Manchester United

In case you didn’t know, David de Gea‘s contract runs out at the end of this season, according to Transfermarkt. Although he does an option for a further year, this must be resolved since he is a pivotal player to Manchester United. He saves the Red Devils plenty of points due to his immense work between the sticks. Of the top six, United has the best goalkeeper so they must not jeopardise this by allowing his contract to run down.

Manchester United has a little more leeway when it comes to Paul Pogba. The Frenchman’s contract will run out in 2021, via Transfermarkt. However, there is plenty of interest surrounding Pogba’s name, with Marca reporting of Zinedine Zidane’s keen interest.

Paul Pogba is one of the best midfielders in the world. He has significantly improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, although this is showing signs of being short-lived. It just shows that when given the license to attack, Pogba thrives. He wasn’t given this privilege under Jose Mourinho, who for whatever reason chose to pin Pogba back and take away from his better assets.

Manchester United is undergoing a transition right now, and rightly so. They must improve next season, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. This means signing players, but it may also mean letting go of some. Especially in Paul Pogba’s case, United officials cannot afford to let him run down his contract. He either signs a new one, or he should be sold as soon as possible. I mean, Ed Woodward and company should take a leaf from Arsenal’s book.
