Barcelona set to poach on Jordi Alba back-up ahead of suitors
Barcelona is set to fasten their pursuit of Jordi Alba‘s back-up by beating one of Europe’s most formidable sides in his hunting.
One of the main points of focus in the Barcelona office is the signing of a back-up for left back Jordi Alba. The Spaniard has had a hectic season after not having a natural locum other than the inexperienced Juan Miranda this season and his inconsistent performances have been enough evidence for the same.

Barcelona is looking to snap up the services of Atletico Madrid full back Filipe Luis for free at the end of this season, as reported by Fox Sport. The Brazilian is yet to agree upon a deal with the side based out of Spain’s capital and is already allowed to talk to other clubs regarding a transfer given that his deal expires at the end of this season.
The 33-year-old has been a regular at Atletico Madrid and has also shrugged off a challenge from Lucas Hernandez in his role, but despite being open to signing an extension at his current club, it does look like his time in Madrid could be over. Borussia Dortmund is another party that is interested in signing him.
Jordi Alba was linked with a transfer to Juventus of late whereas Alex Sandro was one of the several left backs that were on Barcelona’s radar. However, the Catalans have managed to tie the former Valencia left back down to a contract up until June 2024 and only need somebody to be of subordinate capacity to him for the time being.
With that said, Filipe Luis perfectly fits the bill. At 33, he is past his peak and could be content with playing once in a while. From Barcelona’s perspective, he will be available for absolutely zero transfer fees and won’t demand a massive wage either. However, the fact that his only adventure away from Atletico, at Chelsea, was a fail should be kept in mind.
Would Filipe Luis be able to provide successful support to Jordi Alba at the left back position as a backup?
