Real Madrid’s manager Zinedine Zidane is giving the go-ahead to a deal that could severely backfire at them in the future.

Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard has been nothing short of majestic on his most recent loan spell in the Eredivisie with Vitesse. The Norwegian joined the Whites at the age of 16 back in 2015, but failure in making it to the first team meant that he had to settle for loan spells elsewhere in Europe.

More from Real Madrid

The Independent has now reported that Champions League semi-finalists Ajax Amsterdam are looking to sign Martin Odegaard this summer after Zinedine Zidane has not included him in his plans for the next season. The Dutch giants are willing to pay 20 million euros for the bright talent which is certainly a very cheap price for Odegaard.

With that said, Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane, in particular, would be out of their minds to let go of this deal. Firstly, Martin Odegaard’s creativity is possibly unmatched by players of his age and his statistics are enough proof of that. According to WhoScored, Odegaard has six goals and nine assists in 27 appearances in the Dutch top flight this year.

For a 20-year-old, those are superb statistics given that he does not even play for a very well established team. Odegaard’s potential move to Ajax Amsterdam could be a massive downfall for Real Madrid’s ambitions of making a well-balanced squad for the years to come, something which their rivals are yet to do.

While selling Martin Odegaard with a buyback clause would still be judicious, his sale to Ajax Amsterdam is the worst step that Los Blancos can take. While the Dutch side has been a revelation this season and astonished the footballing world, they are somebody who has conceded their European heritage and are a breeding ground for Real’s fiercest rival- Barcelona.

The Catalans have already closed in on the signing of Frenkie de Jong from the Eredivisie toppers and it is only a matter of time before Matthijs de Ligt starts playing for the Blaugrana. Two of Ajax’s brightest talents are heading to Barcelona and there was also talk earlier of some sort of deal regarding youngsters between the two sides.

Additionally, Ajax is known to develop talent and sell them to European clubs. While the two Barcelona bound players, Hakim Ziyech, Nicolas Tagliafico and David Neres are recent examples, the likes of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Luis Suarez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are just a few others who have been part of this propagating cycle.

Should Real Madrid let go of Martin Odegaard to Ajax Amsterdam on a permanent deal?
