Real Madrid get younger up front with the addition of one of Europe’s hottest strikers…

As reported by Sergio Santos Chozas at AS, Real Madrid have a deal in place with Bundesliga’s Eintracht Frankfurt to secure Serbian striker Luka Jovic.

The deal is said to be worth 60 million euros, with Frankfurt seeing the lion’s share of the profit (48 million euros), 12 million euros going back to Benfica. Jovic has been on loan from the Portuguese club since 2017, Frankfurt recently exercising its clause to make the deal permanent.

More from Real Madrid

One of the hottest commodities in world football, Jovic has been linked with some of the largest clubs in Europe (PSG, Barcelona, Liverpool), and rightfully so. During his 2018-19 season, the 21-year old has amassed 27 goals and 6 assists across all competitions and currently has Frankfurt fighting for a Europa League Finals birth, scoring recently against Chelsea in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the competition’s semifinals.

This move further signals Los Blancos efforts to revitalize an aging roster with fresh, young talent under the second reign of manager Zinedine Zidane and provide some additional firepower up front to support longtime striker Karim Benzema, though it’s unlikely to see the Frenchman totally displaced from Zizou’s starting XI anytime soon.

If Madrid should be able to solidify deals for Premier League targets in Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Spurs’ Christian Eriksen to go along with Jovic, the new look side could spell trouble for Barcelona’s recent domination of La Liga and potentially return the club to glory in the Champions League, where Zidane had led the team to three successive titles between 2016 and 2018.

Either way, the Jovic signing is a heady move by Madrid management. They’re getting a player just coming into the prime of their career and for a fraction of what they’d more than likely have paid in several years time. Under the tutelage of Zidane and the surroundings of the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, one would have to fancy Jovic’s chances of becoming one of the most lethal strikers in all of Europe.

What do you think? Is Jovic the answer to Real Mardid’s rejuvenation project?
