Ousmane Dembele suffered an injury in Barcelona’s game against Celta Vigo which rules him out for Liverpool game.

It’s been an up-and-down sophomore season for Ousmane Dembele and it’s another down moment as the Frenchman suffered an injury in the opening minutes of Barcelona’s match against Celta Vigo.

He suffered the injury in the opening minutes and had to be replaced by the Barcelona B youngster, Alex Collado.

Barcelona released a medical report on the status of his injury which stated, “Tests carried out this Sunday have confirmed that the French player has an injury to the right femoral biceps hamstring muscle. The evolution of his injury will condition his availability.”

According to Mundo Deportivo, Ousmane Dembele will be out between three to four weeks. That means that not only will he miss the return leg in the Champions League against Liverpool, but it he will not play again in the league and is a doubt for Barcelona’ Copa del Rey final against Valencia. If Barcelona get past Liverpool, he may make it back in time for the Champions League final.

The club released their squad list for the upcoming Liverpool game and Dembele is not on the list.

Since arriving last season from Borussia Dortmund, Dembele’s Barcelona career has been marked by moments of brilliance alongside with frustrating injuries. He suffered a different hamstring injury in his league debut against Getafe in his first season that sideline him for a few months. When he came back, it wasn’t too long until he suffered another injury leaving him out four weeks.

On a whole, his second season has been better but has yet to shake those hamstring injuries that plagued him his first season. What makes it more frustrating for Barcelona is he was demonstrating why the club spent so much to bring him in. He’s scored crucial goals for Barcelona and had eclipsed Philippe Coutinho and earned a spot in the starting eleven.

He offers something that Barcelona lack up front, which is pace. Unless Barcelona make it to the final, Dembele’s season is over. Even if they do make it, he takes a while to get in rhythm and may not see any minutes in a hypothetical final. It’s a disappointing end to  his second season but at just 21-years-old, he still has a bright future in front him. He, along with the club, just need to figure out a way to limit the injuries.
