Keep, Loan or Sell? Verdict on Manchester United squad ahead of summer overhaul
By Tushar Bahl
Anthony Martial
Martial, like Pogba, is way too inconsistent to be a United regular. While he has bags of potential, Martial often comes across as lazy, disinterested and seems to be lacking hunger. Once dubbed as a potential Ballon d’Or winner, there are clear signs that he has stagnated in recent years. His performances haven’t improved under Solskjaer, but he recently signed a new long term contract so it remains to be seen if there is a market for him.
Verdict: Keep, but listen to offers
Marcus Rashford

Rashford is another player who has frustrated fans with erratic decision making and poor performances in recent weeks. The potential is there but it remains to be seen if he will reach it. Despite his frustrating moments, Rashford is having the best season of his career so far. He is still only 21 and will only get better. But with his contract expiring in 2020, there are doubts about whether he will sign a new deal.
Verdict: Keep and sign on a long-term deal
Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku has failed to recapture the form of his first season and is open to a move away from United this summer. He has been sporadically used by Solskjaer and it remains to be seen if the Belgian is the right fit for his style. Lukaku is a proven goalscorer and shines whenever he gets the right service. But there are also concerns that he often goes missing in games and that is a worry. Replacing him would certainly cost United a lot of money, but selling him would make sense if the club can recoup the fee they paid for him.
Verdict: Sell if the right offer arrives
Jesse Lingard
Lingard provides a lot of energy to this United side, but he does not score or assist enough goals to warrant a regular spot in the line-up. He is 26 now and needs to be more consistent if he wants to stay at United. If he is happy to stay as a squad player, then keep him, otherwise listen to offers.
Verdict: Keep, but only as a squad player
Alexis Sanchez
It’s fair to say that the Sanchez signing is danger of going down as one of the worst in the club’s recent history. He has been shockingly poor and has destabilized United’s wage structure with other players now demanding inflated wages. Selling him won’t be easy unless a team from China comes calling. United may well have to subsidize his wages in order to get rid of him.
Verdict: Sell if you can
Juan Mata
Mata’s contract expires at the end of the season and United want him to stay. Keeping him around as a squad player makes sense unless he asks for too much money.
Verdict: Keep (but only if he accept reasonable wages)
