Mesut Ozil will remain with Arsenal this summer and rightly so

Don’t worry Arsenal fans, Mesut Ozil isn’t going anywhere…

When it comes to scapegoats and folk devils, there aren’t many bigger than Mesut Ozil. The Arsenal midfielder is no stranger to media backlash, which then transcends to the Gunners fanbase, annoyingly enough.

However, it’s thought that the German playmaker will not be going anywhere this summer. The news comes from The Mirror, who have reported that Ozil will probably stay until the end of his contract. In case you didn’t know, Ozil does not run out of contract until the summer of 2021 (via transfermarkt).

More from Arsenal FC

Mesut Ozil owes Arsenal big time. He is their highest paid player and the fans stick up for him endlessly. He signed a contract extension last winter when the club needed him to most. However, since then, he has not made the impression he would have liked in Arsenal colours.

Ozil has had a lot going on in his mind. In the summer he was forced to retire from the Germany national team due to racism accusations from himself. And just this season, he has failed to get in Emery’s good books and has featured on the bench through the most part.

Arsenal finds themselves in a promising situation right now. It does not look likely they will finish in the Premier League top four, however, they have a chance to win a ticket to the Champions League by winning the Europa League. They will play London rivals Chelsea in the final, a fixture which Ozil has impressed in many times before.

Ozil was a top tier player, and in my eyes, he still can be. He has the potential to play in Europe’s elite tier, so I’m certain he will do everything in his power to help Arsenal overcome Chelsea in the final.

Ozil doesn’t just have the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he has the weight of himself. He is a smart player so he will not listen to media backlash, but I’m sure he’s his own harshest critic. He knows he has a lot to prove to the Arsenal fanbase, hence his decision to not push for a move.

Do you think Mesut Ozil will ever reach the top level again?
